## ETF Flow Briefing — Monday 24 August 2026
---
1. Tape
Tech and semis dragged US equities lower (QQQ −1.0%, SMH −2.4%), while defensives and staples quietly outperformed. Internationally, the EM complex was the day's weakest block — Korea, Taiwan and broad EM all fell hard — though ASEAN and LatAm bucked the trend with modest green.
---
2. Strongest Creations *(by flow percentile)*
- EWS MSCI Singapore (+$64m, p96): Highest-ranked inflow in the whole dataset. Quiet rotation into a small-cap defensive EM proxy with RSI 65 — not yet stretched.
- EIDO MSCI Indonesia (+$61m, p95): Paired with EWS, ASEAN is absorbing capital fleeing North Asian tech exposure. EPHE Philippines (p93) confirms the ASEAN bid.
- IXG Global Financials (+$95m, p95): Sector financials globally are the one area seeing genuine conviction — likely benefiting from a steeper rate curve and rotation out of growth.
---
3. Heaviest Redemptions *(by flow percentile)*
- QQQ Nasdaq 100 (−$58.9bn, p0): Historically worst-ever 20-day outflow. The market's biggest liquidity vehicle is being aggressively unwound — risk-off signal #1.
- GLD SPDR Gold (−$16.9bn, p0) & GDX Gold Miners (−$7.5bn, p0): Gold up +0.79%, RSI 72 — yet redemptions are at all-time lows. Smart money trimming a crowded winner into strength.
- SMH VanEck Semis (−$9.7bn, p0): Semis flows at historic lows alongside a −2.43% day. Structural derisking, not just a hedge.
---
4. Overbought / Oversold
- Overbought (RSI >70): GLD (72), GDX (76), COPX (70). Gold complex fully extended.
- Near overbought: XLV (69), IBB (69) — healthcare at the highs even as money exits.
- Oversold (RSI <30): None officially, but XLU (39), XLI (40), SMH (42), BOTZ/ROBO (40/42), ICLN (37) are approaching oversold territory.
---
5. Theme of the Day
Sell winners into strength, flee tech. Gold overbought yet seeing record redemptions — longs cashing out at all-time highs. Simultaneously, QQQ, SMH, DRAM, BOTZ and ROBO all sit at p0 outflows. Capital is migrating to ASEAN single-countries (EWS, EIDO, EPHE) and global financials (IXG). The message: de-risk the AI/semi trade, rotate to yield and non-China EM.

---
7. Watchlist
Watch whether QQQ gap-fills on the open or extends lows — at a historically extreme p0 redemption pace, any stabilization in semis (SMH) or a relief bounce in EWY/EWT could signal a short-term reversal. If both remain offered, the ASEAN/LatAm rotation deepens.
